The Chain of Your Curl · Ubayd Zakani

The curl and the drunken glance are His beauty showing itself. We do not choose this madness, nor that tavern — the beauty carries us to both.

This ruin is not a place on any map; it is the broken, forgotten heart. Love does not search where things are in good order — it finds the ruin.

The heart longs for the place at his ear where a pearl is hung — and so our tears turn to pearls. Grief takes its worth from what it longs for.

Before the candle the moth gains nothing — it loses itself. And that burning, seen by Him, is the only fortune there is.

A fable is what a man says about what he has never tasted. The preacher imagines we are listening; a captured heart does not hear talk from outside.

This madness is a remedy, not an affliction: we put it on so that the wise will forget us. To be well thought of by the prudent is itself a chain.

Once the wine comes from Him directly, cup and goblet have nothing left to do. The means are precious only while what they were for has not arrived.
