The death here is not the body's; it is the going of the self. While it fills us there is no room. Once it goes, all of us becomes spirit.
What we call death is not an ending but a rising. It is our fear of it, and not the earth, that keeps us in the earth.
The nafs is the wanting in us that never stops. We think we are free, and that we own it. It owns us.
An axe means work, not wishing. A wall does not fall because we want it to. Behind it, each of us is a king.
It matters before whom we are undone. Die at the foot of anything at all and we are nothing; at His, we are kings.
The cloud is whatever stands between us and the light. The moon has no light of its own. Once the cloud moves off, all of it is light.
Silence is not the end of speech but its source. While we are the ones speaking, nothing is said. Once we fall silent, the cry comes through us.
